Caedmon Educators Explore Cuba
From June 10 to 16, 2010, 24 members of the Caedmon faculty, staff and administration visited Cuba to learn about its rich educational history. Spending the majority of their time in Havana, the Caedmon crew visited elementary and secondary classrooms, met with professors of education, learned about Cuba’s famous literacy campaign of 1961, and visited a community arts organization. They immersed themselves in the nation’s cultural, political, and artistic history, visiting the capitol city’s greatest museums. As well as being a bonding experience within Caedmon's educational community, the trip also has served as a broader form of professional development and will continue to do so in a lasting way. While the Caedmon educators may not apply their experiences directly to the classroom, those experiences have deepened their global understanding indelibly--an asset to any school, particularly one as international as our own.
