Selecting a school that will be the best match for your family is an important decision, and we are here to support you throughout that journey. Do not hesitate to contact us at any point with questions. We look forward to getting to know your family and to introducing you to our school.

Please read the information below for explanations of each required step for admissions and then contact Susan Bonet, Admissions Assistant, at 212-879-2296 x307 to schedule all appointments.

Tours

Parents are required to tour our school as part of the admissions process. In order to accommodate the busy schedule of parents, both morning and evening tours are available. You are welcome to tour the school before submitting your application. However, applications must be submitted by the November 30th deadline, even if you have not yet taken your tour. An administrator will lead approximately eight families on a tour of the school. Both tour options provide parents with the same information about our school. However, if you would like to observe our students in a classroom setting, a morning tour is recommended. Morning tours are from 9:00 - 10:30 am and evening tours are from 6:30 - 8:00 pm. Reservations are required and it is advisable to call as early as possible since spaces fill up quickly. Morning tours begin in late September and two evening tours are held in October.

Please include a family picture with your application.

Interview

The Admissions office will call you upon receipt of your application to schedule an interview for your child and an interview for parents.

Parent Interview

We welcome the opportunity to learn about your family at the parent interview. This meeting with an Admissions Officer lasts for approximately 45 minutes. It is an opportunity for us to learn about your family and for you to ask questions about the school. If there are two parents, it is required that both parents attend this appointment. If both parents are not available, the interview will not take place. Please call the Admissions office as far in advance as possible to reschedule if one parent has a conflict.

Beginner and Early Program Applicants

Our goal is to create an enjoyable experience for your child when he or she comes to the school. The purpose of this appointment is to determine your child’s readiness to participate in our program. It is the school’s preference that just one adult accompany your child. It is ideal if your child is brought to Caedmon with whomever he or she would typically be with at the time of the visit. If your child is usually with a caregiver, we encourage you to allow her to accompany your child to Caedmon. Parent attendance at this appointment is not mandatory.

Children applying to Beginners or Early Program play in small groups for thirty to forty-five minutes. Beginners playgroups are held on Saturdays in January and February. Early Program playgroups are held on Saturdays in December, January, and February.

The children with their parents will be invited to join teachers to play in a classroom. The session is supervised by a minimum of three adults, both teachers and administrators. The goal of this visit is for us to get to know your child, so please do your best to remain in the chairs in the classroom and allow the teachers to interact with your child.

Kindergarten Applicants

Children applying to Kindergarten visit a Kindergarten classroom on a Saturday in November or December. The session lasts for around one hour and involves approximately twelve children. Children participate in a variety of projects under the supervision of four Kindergarten teachers and an Admissions Officer. During this time parents/guardians remain in the lobby and speak to current Caedmon parents about their experiences at our school.

First through Fifth Grade Applicants

Children applying to first through fifth grades spend about one and a half hours during a school day in the classroom of the grade to which they are applying in November, December, or January. The classroom teacher assesses reading, writing and mathematics skills during this time as well as invites the children to participate in a social activity.

School Transcripts

If your child is in a formal school program, please request that school reports be sent directly from your child’s current school to The Caedmon School. The Caedmon School must receive these reports by the deadline of January 13, 2012.

Testing Requirements

For applicants to Kindergarten through Grade 5, it is required to schedule an appointment with the Educational Records Bureau (ERB) for testing. Please call 212-672-9800 or visit http://www.erbtest.org to make the necessary arrangements.

Non-Discriminatory Policy

The Caedmon School does not discriminate against students because of gender, race, religion, color, disability, nationality, ethnic origin, or sexual orientation in any of the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to the students at the school. It does not discriminate on the basis of gender, race, religion, color, disability, nationality, ethnic origin, or sexual orientation in the administration of its educational policies and other school administered programs.
