On Monday through Friday of each week, from 3:40p.m. to 5:00p.m., Caedmon offers a diverse selection of Afterschool classes. There is a wide range of activities, including: sports (gymnastics, soccer, basketball, etc.), chess, arts and crafts, dance, cooking, gardening, and computers. Along with a snack, there are options for 60 and 80 minute courses per afternoon, offered for a modest fee, in three separate sessions during the year.
Caedmon Afterschool has changed its program to include options for 60-minute or 80-minute classes. All afterschool classes begin at 3:40 and end at either 4:40 (now know as Afterschool 60s) or 5:00 (now known as Afterschool 80s) unless otherwise noted. What hasn't changed is the diverse range of activities available to all or our students.
This term brings some exciting new classes along with the return of popular mainstays. For those wanting a physical challenge, Monday's Runners Club for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades provides a unique challenge. Students will build up their endurance as they work on the proper running stride, pacing, and breathing, all along the running lanes of the East River promenade.
The renowned New York Fencers Club is back with Tuesday's Live Fencing class. Now expanded to 80 minutes, students in this Middle and Upper Level class will get to put on the full fencing gear (mask, jacket, glove, and foil) as they "On Guard, Fence!" each class. Sports for the younger ones include Monday's Beginners Tennis and the popular Sports Medley on Fridays.
If culture is your thing, you'll want to check out Wednesday's new Viva Italian class. Caedmon Latin teacher Dan McNerney takes the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students on a journey to experience the amzing contributions of Italian writers, scientists, and historical figures with a variety of hands-on activities.
In all, the afterschool program offeres 35 classes certain to enhance learning and curiosity and build important developmental and social skills.
Any student who is not at the school for 3:30 regular day dismissal, including half day Early Program or students who attend another school, must be brought to the afterschool class location by a parent or caregiver.
The price for each class varies depending on the number of sessions and costs of operation. There are no additional expenses. As indicate din the class lising, classes are intended for particular grade levels. Please register your child accordingly. Classes will not be made up due to unforeseen cancellations.
Registration deadline is Monday, September 12th at 6:00pm. Please make checks payable to The Caedmon School.Credit card payment is also accepted in person at the business office or by calling extension 303. A $20 late fee will be charged to anyone who enrolls after September 12th. Unless you are notified by telephone or email, consider your child automatically enrolled. Registration cannot be accepted from families owing fees from prior terms.
Tuition is fully refundable until the first class. A pro-rated refund of the course fee is available prior to the third class. There are no refunds available after the third class.
ONLY the person(s) indicated on the registration form may pick children up following their afterschool activity. Any changes in this procedure must be provided in writing to the school registrar Pauline Virella or the director. If your child is in school, but will not attend afterschool that day, please notify the director as well.
