Afterschool Classes

On Monday through Friday of each week, from 3:40p.m. to 5:40p.m., Caedmon offers a diverse selection of Afterschool classes. There is a wide range of activities, including: sports (gymnastics, soccer, basketball, etc.), chess, arts and crafts, dance, cooking, gardening, and computers. Along with a snack, there are two hour-long courses per afternoon, offered for a modest fee, in three separate sessions during the year.

GENERAL INFORMATION

The fall term of the afterschool program runs from September 20th through December 3rd. There is no afterschool on days when school is closed as well as November 23rd. All Block 1 classes are 3:40 - 4:40 with Block 2 following from 4:40 - 5:40. Friday's Swimming class runs from 3:30 - 5:30. A Caedmon teacher escorts the children to and from Asphalt Green. Pick up is back at Caedmon at 5:30.

The price for each class varies depending on the number of sessions and the costs of operation. There are no additional expenses. As indicated in the class listing, classes are intended for particular grade levels. Please register your child accordingly. Classes will not be made due to unforseen cancellations.

Registration

Registration deadline is Tuesday, September 14th at 6:00pm. Please make checks payable to The Caedmon School. A $20 late fee will be charged to anyone who enrolls after September 14th. Unless you are notified by telephone, consider your child automatically enrolled. Registration cannot be accepted from families owing fees from prior terms.

Refunds

Tuition is fully refundable until the first class. A pro-rated refund of the course fee is available prior to the third class. There are no refunds available after the third class.

After School Dismissal

ONLY the person(s) indicated on the registration form may pick children up following their class. Any changes in this procedure must be provided in writing to Pauline Virella or the director. If your child is in school, but will not attend afterschool that day, please notify the director as well.

CAEDMON AFTERSCHOOL FALL 2010

Caedmon goes global this fall with a series of new classes that are out of this world. At the top of the list is Myachi, an ultra cool game that combines the skill and discipline of martial arts with the excitement and entertainment of action sports. You'll learn the cradle, the slingshot, and the half pipe in no time.

In keeping with the international flavor, Caedmon Afterschool offers four distinct foreign language classes. Mrs. Joanne Lo presents her native Mandarin Chinese to students in Junior and Senior Mandarin. The Junior class, for Early Program and Kindergarten students, introduces the language and culture with songs, letters, and numbers while the Senior class, for Lower Level through Upper Level, progresses from basic greetings to full sentences with the goal of becoming conversational in Mandarin. Both classes require a full year commitment.

Continuing the foreign language them are a pair of classes brought to Caedmon by Bilingual Birdies, Fun with French and Hoppin' to Hebrew. Have fun while you sing, dance, and play your way through French and Hebrew language and culture. Additional new classes this fall include Doll and Pillow Making, Tap Dancing, and Super Science, where you'll uncover the fascinating facts about plants, animals, soil, and the environment.

Another new component to the afterschool is an academic enrichment class. Lower, Middle, and Upper Level students will have the opportunity to work with a Caedmon teacher in one-on-one or small group tutoring in Math and Reading Plus. Upper Level students can also receive extra preparation in an ISEE Prep class.

Thank you,

Andrew Kagan
