There are many ways we build community.
Book Buddies - Click here to see pictures worth a thousand words.
Monthly All School Assembly - The students come together once a month to celebrate as a community the mission of the school. The assemblies focus on a tenet of the mission every month as well as a class project, poetry, celebrations, holidays, and community service projects. The entire school joins in singing and celebrating their life at Caedmon.
Honoring Faculty & Staff - Faculty/Staff are honored at Caedmon’s party post - holiday show for 5, 10, 15 ,20, and 25 years of dedication to the children and to the mission of Caedmon.

Reaching out to our community:
Heifer Project- Early Program children at Caedmon engage in an annual, year-long effort in conjunction with Heifer International, whose mission it is to provide sustainable, economic assistance to families around the world. Under the direction of art teacher Kristina Bakker, they collect change, create and sell note cards, and sponsor a holiday catalogue, all to provide African families with livestock as a renewable resource. To date, many and various animals have been purchased through their efforts.

Yorkville Common Pantry - The entire Caedmon community shares with the immediate community by participating in food drives, which support the good works organized by Yorkville Common Pantry.

C.A.R.E. - In 2008, the elementary classes will begin a long term study of the Sub Saharan region of Africa. This will eventually lead to their helping to fund the construction of a sister school in that country, in partnership with C.A.R.E.

Pajama Program - The Pajama Program collects and distributes new pajamas and books for children in need, many of whom are waiting and hoping to be adopted right here in New York City.
Green Caedmon - Caedmon has long incorporated “green-awareness” into the classroom curriculum and building protocols. To help share this awareness with our extended community, the weekly electronic newsletter “Inside Caedmon” includes a regular featured article called “Green Caedmon”. In this way, we reinforce the ways in which we are already green, and invite new ideas form parents and children.
