Our Chef

Ray Key Winstead, III (Key Winstead) chose New York City as his residence in 1989, after graduating from Johnson & Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island. While studying Hospitality Management and Culinary Arts at University, Key worked as a private chef in the homes of several of the city’s prestigious residents, while simultaneously creating menus, designing and captaining events for a high end catering company in Boston, MA.

After working as a private Chef for a prominent family in Hyde Park, NY, Key moved to Manhattan and over a period of eight years worked as Catering Director for several catering companies, serving many of New York City’s corporate firms and society elite. Before his own company’s birth in April of ’99, Key successfully launched a full service catering company for the distinguished Dean & Deluca on Broadway in NYC.

Winstead Caterers is Key Winstead’s vision: he brings together a group of talented professionals to bring the finest culinary experiences to the tables of New York City. He and his staff are dedicated to the preparation of only the best of quality foods, with exquisite and innovative presentation, and with the highest standards of service.

Winstead performed magical culinary delights for his own opening party for the Winstead Group, NY, incorporating a private screening of Fantasia 2000 in the Sony IMAX Theatre for 600 personal and professional invitees. President Clinton, Barry Diller, Princess Marie Chantal, Prince, Ivana Trump, Giorgio Armani, and Patricia Field are among a few of Winstead’s social clientele, whom he continues to wow with his Southern charm. Corporate clients include AOL, Bloomberg, Morgan Stanley, USA Networks, Versace, Neuberger Berman plus many, many more.

“I love to cook for my friends! Give me a nice bottle of red wine, some good music, lots of great ingredients, and I can get lost in the kitchen for hours.” —Sounds like a friend we all would like to know.
