Afterschool Classes & Schedule

Afterschool class offerings have been curated specifically for the needs and interests of Caedmon families, and each day offers new opportunities for fun and discovery. Click here for an overview of fall classes.

Registration opens on Monday, August 4 at 12:00 p.m. on CampBrain. Families on Flex Tuition are eligible for reduced pricing on Afterschool classes. Please contact the Director of Afterschool, Slawomir Balon, for more information.

Monday Classes

Beginners Chess (Early Program only)
3:40–4:20 p.m. (40-Minute Sessions)
Chess at Three Faculty

Using fun, interactive, and creative storytelling, our Early Program friends will learn the background stories behind each of the chess pieces. For example, why does the king only move one square at a time and why is the rook always “running”? Children will need to take the class to find out the answer. In addition, students will develop math skills, critical thinking, emotional intelligence, and executive functioning skills. Note: Suitable for new and experienced players. $450

Caedmon Chefs Ray (Beginners and Early Program)

All the ingredients turn out just right in this junior food-making class. Children practice their executive functioning, fine-motor, and gross-motor skills as they mix, stir, dice, and blend a host of foods to produce delicious meals. Children also learn collaboration, patience, nutrition, and design skills. Some of the fall menu highlights include pumpkin pie, cinnamon buns, and apple dumplings. Bring your appetite! $450

Caedmon Chefs Flay (K–2nd Grade)

For those with a little more experience in the kitchen, this cooking class provides students the practice needed to become their own sous chefs. Students do all the mixing, chopping, rolling, and seasoning as they prepare a variety of delicious meals, snacks, and beverages. In addition to taking home a multitude of treats each week, children develop executive functioning and design skills while reinforcing patience, collaboration and etiquette. $450

Outerspace (EP–2nd Grade)

Aspiring astronauts, get ready to launch! Our out-of-this-world adventure takes children deep into the Milky Way to probe what exists beyond the atmosphere. Every mystery in the universe will be examined to discover all the secrets space has to offer, including black holes, dwarf planets, meteorites, and comets. Class activities include sculpture, design, basic food preparation, interactive videos, and more, all based on furthering our fascination with outer space. $450

Caedmon Hoops II (2nd-5th Grade)
3:40–4:40 p.m. (60-Minute Sessions)

Join Caedmon basketball coach Mr. Kessler in this skills-based class which emphasizes dribbling, passing, footwork, rebounding, and proper shooting form. Fun games and vigorous exercises reinforce key fundamentals that are building blocks to team play. This class is equal amounts sweat, fun, and basketball skill development. Full court games conclude every class. New and returning hoopsters are welcome. $450

Film Making (3rd– 5th Grade)
3:40–4:40 p.m. (60-Minute Sessions)
Dan McNerney

Students in this class will practice writing, acting in, filming, and editing their own short scenes. They will learn about different types of shots, how to make a scene spatially clear, and how to maintain the flow of an action from one shot to the next. As a final project, students will collaborate to create a short film from one of their own stories. It’s perfect for children interested in working behind and in front of the camera. Who’s ready to make a movie? $450

Board Games (3rd– 5th Grade)

Character-building classic games like Settlers of Catan, Ticket to Ride, and Carcassonne will develop each student’s focus and executive function skills as they square off in this ultimate games class. Students will also improve in areas of cooperation, overcoming adversity, sportsmanship, endurance, demeanor, and grace. These are lessons that go far beyond this class. Board Games is as much fun as it is intellectually challenging. Class runs from 3:40–5:00 p.m. $460

Boom Science (3rd–5th Grade)
3:40–4:40 p.m. (60-Minute Sessions)

Boom Science is an explosive adventure into the wonders of the world around us! In this high-energy class, young scientists will dive into jaw-dropping chemical reactions, explore the mysteries of the human body (ever wonder how your lunch becomes energy?), test the forces of flight with aerodynamics, and uncover the power of cause and effect through hands-on experiments that make learning unforgettable. From bubbling potions to flying contraptions, Boom Science makes curiosity go kaboom! — one exciting discovery at a time. $450

 

 

Tuesday Classes

FunikiJam: Power of the Flower (Beginners and EP)

This Fall, students at Caedmon will become Agents of Jam on a global mission to restore color and joy to the world — one magical music class at a time!

Inspired by FunikiJam’s international tour and upcoming album Power of the Flower (Live from China), this award-winning program combines world music, movement, and cultural exploration with early childhood learning. Weekly classes are built around five engaging, developmental themes: Light, Harmony, Adventure, Tradition, and Joy — promoting motor skills, coordination, creativity, and confidence through rhythm and play.

Students will explore global hits and original songs featured in FunikiJam’s new YouTube concert series and Power of the Flower album (launching this Fall) culminating in an optional Off-Broadway recital event in December, where Caedmon students will be invited to perform alongside Captain Jam and the Agents of Jam. $495

Sr. Tumbleweeds (EP–K)

Roll America Faculty

This is the perfect class for young ones with an abundance of physical energy. From forward to backward rolls, to bridges, to all kinds of stretches, jumps, lunges, and everything in between, these young athletes will harness all their vigor and flexibility in this structured pre-gymnastics program. In addition to the fun, creative form of expression, children will develop focus, core strength, stamina, and sequencing skills. $495

Soccer I (EP–K)

SocRoc Coaches

This high-energy soccer and movement games class combines age-appropriate fun and fitness exercises with the fundamentals of soccer. Designed by former professional soccer player James Christie, SocRoc is unlike any other youth soccer program. Children will develop a wide series of soccer skills, including one-touch and two-touch passing, trapping, and power shots. Come join the SocRoc excitement this fall. Note: Class is held in the Caedmon gym. $495

Mandarin (K–5th Grade)

Manhattan Mandarin Faculty

The wonderful teachers of Manhattan Mandarin will help your child begin his/her journey towards Mandarin fluency. Children will build the foundation of essential language skills in a fun and engaging class that focuses on tonal pronunciation, sentence building, initial character writing, numbers, family, foods, and hobbies. Songs will be sung and projects will be completed while your child falls in love with learning Mandarin and all about Chinese culture. $495

Mini Medics  (K–2nd Grade)

Join us for an exciting and interactive Mini Medic class, where children will step into the world of medicine through hands-on activities! Led by a medical student, kids will learn how to use a stethoscope to listen to heartbeats and lung sounds, explore human anatomy with fun models and body tracing, and engage in basic physical exam skills. This class is designed to spark curiosity, build confidence, and give children a glimpse into what doctors and surgeons do every day all in a fun, engaging, and age-appropriate way! $495

Pokémon (3rd–5th Grade)

Calling all Pokémon enthusiasts! Join us for an exciting after-school adventure as we delve into the captivating world of Pokémon in our Pokémon Masters course.

In this engaging program, students will: Explore the vast and diverse Pokémon universe through interactive games and activities. Dive deep into the lore of different Pokémon species, learning about their types, abilities, and characteristics. Develop strategic thinking skills by participating in Pokémon battles and challenges. Enhance creativity through Pokémon-themed arts and crafts projects, such as designing their own Pokémon cards or creating unique Pokémon characters. Foster teamwork and collaboration by working together to solve Pokémon-themed puzzles and quests. Our knowledgeable instructors will guide students through this immersive journey, encouraging exploration and discovery while promoting a positive and inclusive learning environment. No prior Pokémon knowledge is required—just a sense of adventure and enthusiasm to become a Pokémon Master! $495

SocRoc II (1st–3rd Grade)

Soccer players develop their one-touch and two-touch passes under the experienced coaching of veteran SocRoc instructors. In addition to soccer skills and games, youngsters are challenged with a variety of exercises meant to improve balance, agility, core strength, and stamina. The workout is vigorous, and the soccer excitement is unparalleled. New and experienced players are welcome. Note: Class is held in the Caedmon gym from 4:20–5:20 p.m. $495

Lego Story Builders (3rd-5th Grade)

Imagine a world where LEGO creations become the stars of epic adventures! In this program, students will craft incredible story-driven LEGO scenes, transforming their

builds into immersive storytelling experiences. From fantasy castles and superhero showdowns to sci-fi landscapes and historical reenactments, students will design, build, and animate their LEGO stories. They will develop engaging plots, dynamic characters, and breathtaking settings—all while exploring the fundamentals of visual storytelling. $495

Wednesday Classes

Slime (EP-2nd Grade)
3:40–4:40 p.m. (60-Minute Sessions)

Dive into the world of slime and start your slime making journey! Create a new type of slime each week! In this class, you'll learn to create slime from scratch, starting with basic slime. Starting with just glue and activator, you'll learn the core steps to create the perfect basic slime, the essential foundation for all other textures. Once we have learned the basic techniques, we will start exploring other types of slime including an edible slime, magnetic slime, and even an glow-in-the-dark slime! This slime making class is a hands-on workshop where participants learn the science behind slime creation, mixing different ingredients to create various textures and colors of slime, often allowing for customization with glitter, beads, scents, and other add-ins, while exploring the sensory experience of playing with slime; suitable for students three years of age and up and perfect for unleashing creativity. $450

Tennis II ( Kindergarten – 2nd Grade)
4:20–5:20 p.m. (60-Minute Sessions)

This beginner to intermediate level class will develop all the key tennis fundamentals, including stance, swing, and footwork. Children will learn how to hit forehands, backhands, and volleys among friends in a familiar space. Tennis improves hand-eye coordination, fine and gross motor skills, concentration, and social interaction. This class is a great outlet for physical activity and a perfect follow/up to summer. Note: Class is held in the upstairs Caedmon gym and runs from 4:20–5:20. All equipment will be provided. $450

Martial Arts I (K–1st Grade)
3:40–4:40 p.m. (60-Minute Sessions)

Based on teaching in a positive, focused, and character-building environment, the class is a blend of ancient and modern martial arts with a solid foundation in Taekwondo and Japanese Karate. Lessons are learned through creative games and activities that promote fitness, agility, and confidence. Children learn proper self-defense techniques while building stamina and core strength. Other benefits are focus, cooperation, and a love and appreciation of martial arts. Note: Uniform is provided for all new students. $450

Martial Arts II (2nd-3rd Grade)

This multi-level class provides students with the foundational concepts of Taekwondo and Japanese Karate. In addition to the basics of self-defense, children engage in a variety of fun and creative games meant to build strength, confidence, balance, and agility. Everything is taught in a positive, focused, and character-building environment where belts are earned through effort, concentration, and selflessness. Veteran martial arts practitioners and newcomers are both welcome. Note: Class meets from 4:40–5:40 in Caedmon’s downstairs space. $450

Minecraft I (1st–5th Grade)
3:40–4:40 p.m. (60-Minute Sessions)

This beginners/intermediate class tantalizes young children with a plethora of options for building, scaling, and allocating resources. Students learn creativity and survival mode applications via the MinecraftEdu program. They’ll chart courses that are innovative, fun, and practical while contemplating real world solutions to perplexing circumstances. Under the facilitation of librarian and tech master, Ms. Vrazel, these Minecraft pupils will find success in this digital world. Note: Suitable for new and returning students. $450

Cheer Club (2nd-5th Grade)

Get ready to jump, cheer, and shine! In Caedmon’s Cheer Club, students in Grades 2–5 will learn the fundamentals of cheerleading, including cheer positions, group dances, and basic routines. Our team will build spirit and confidence as they work together to perform at school assemblies and special events. Through movement, rhythm, and teamwork, cheerleaders will develop coordination, collaboration, and school pride—one cheer at a time! $450

Thursday Classes

The Art Start Gallery (Beginners–EP)

In this fun and hands-on after-school class, little artists will explore the magic of making art with everyday objects and their own imaginations. From apple stamp prints to fingerprint leaf trees and pumpkin-inspired masterpieces, children will create a colorful collection of seasonal artwork. Each piece will be added to their own special art portfolio—a keepsake booklet to take home and proudly display. $405


Strum Buddies (EP–K)
4:20–5:00 p.m. (40-Minute Sessions)

Strum buddies is a group ukulele class that serves as the perfect introduction to playing this beautiful Hawaiian instrument. The class offers a chance for beginner ukulele players to build community and learn the foundations of strumming, chords, and performing. Students sing and dance to familiar songs, learn simple chords, play games, and perform thematic original songs that they create on the spot. They learn to support one another and work together while making beautiful music. Benefits include enhancing social skills, fine and gross motor development, language development, and igniting a love for music! $405

Chessplayers (K–1st Grade)

For children with a little bit of chess experience, this class introduces critical fundamentals of the game as a prelude to independent game play. The Chess Advance style incorporates puzzles and questions which inspire children to think more critically about pieces, positions, and strategy. The small class setting and individual attention aids in each child’s game understanding, readiness to play, and enjoyment of the game. Note: Suitable for new and returning players. $405

Phonics Fun & Games (K-1st Grade)

In Bright Beginnings, young learners will build strong reading skills through fun, interactive phonics games. Each week, students will explore letter sounds, word families, rhyming words, and blending techniques using activities like Bingo, scavenger hunts, and creative word-building challenges. This engaging class boosts reading fluency, vocabulary, and confidence in a playful, supportive environment. $405

This class will deepen their digital knowledge as they problem-solve and use original practices to navigate more challenging screens in the pursuit of Minecraft mastery. Children may challenge or collaborate with one another while building or surviving in the Minecraft world. $405

Caedmon Chess Team (1st–5th Grade)
4:40-5:40 p.m. (60-Minute Sessions)

This competitive class for experienced chess players will take a student’s game to the next level. The Chess Advance technique facilitates critical thinking skills through intricate games, puzzles, and complex questions. Students will develop more advanced strategies and game analysis while squaring off against one another. Experienced players are invited to represent Caedmon at local chess tournaments this fall. Note: Class runs from 4:40–5:40 p.m. $405

ISEE Prep (5th Grade Only)
3:40-5:00 p.m. (80-Minute Sessions)
Elena Howell, Bryan Storti, and Dan McNerney

Utilizing proven test-taking strategies, along with critical reviews of mathematical properties, quantitative skills, verbal reasoning, reading comprehension, and essay writing preparation, a trio of veteran Caedmon teachers fully equip these students with all the tools necessary to succeed on the big day. In addition to the nuts and bolts of test prep, tips on how to stay relaxed, when it’s okay to guess, and proper rest and nutrition will also be covered. Note: this 80-minute class dismisses at 5:00 p.m. $415

Clay Creations (B–EP)

Let’s play, squish, and create together with colorful clay! In this fun and hands-on class, little artists will roll, press, and shape soft clay to make playful pieces like pretend food, tiny creatures, and other silly shapes.

This class is all about exploring textures, colors, and creativity—just like playdough, but with even more magic! With plenty of guidance and lots of sensory fun, toddlers will enjoy using their imaginations in a safe and joyful space. $495

Creative Kids (EP)
3:40–4:20 p.m. (40-Minute Sessions)
Togetherhood Faculty

Can’t choose between Science and the Arts? This is the enrichment club for you! Students will expand their creativity via a thoughtfully curated curriculum that brings STEM experiments to life through music, art, and movement. Ideal for curious minds and hands-on learners, students will sing, play, create, explore, and match their movements to different rhythms and songs. Join us as we raise our voices and our hands. $495

Ballet Dancing I (EP–K)

Ballet Academy East’s Sarah Feliciano

This graceful and flowing style of dance continues at Caedmon this winter. Learn basic barre exercises including plies and eleves. Girls are required to wear a black leotard, pink tights and pink ballet slippers. Boys must wear black tights, a white T-shirt, and black ballet slippers. Long hair should be pulled back. Both new and returning students are welcome. Note: Class is held in the Caedmon gym. $495

Students will build on top of basic barre exercises including plies and eleves, and will work towards more advanced movements. Theater for Kids (K–3rd Grade)
3:40–4:40 p.m. (60 Minute Sessions)
RollAmerica faculty

Children explore their creative side in this fun and unique theatre and improv class. A variety of movement exercises, character development, and amusing interactions with one another enable students to develop and sharpen their acting techniques. They will also have the opportunity to create and present their own mini-shows at the end of the term. For children who embrace the stage and spotlight or those ready to try something new and fun, this theatre class will provide laughs, smiles, and memorable experiences. $495

Super Sketching (2nd–5th Grade)
3:40–4:40 p.m. (60 Minute Sessions)

By drawing from various works of art, photographs, nature, and still life that surrounds them, students will dedicate themselves to this focused activity that promotes visual thinking skills. Concentration is key as children learn to sketch what they see. Drawing skills will naturally improve as children carefully select the objects to draw each week. It’s a challenging but peaceful exercise that is a perfect way to cap a week at school. $495

Ping Pong (3rd– 5th Grade)
3:40–4:40 p.m. (60 Minute Sessions)

The classic game of table tennis is a can’t miss after school class. Children will learn to hit forehands and backhands with the wood paddle while placing the small plastic ball over the net and onto the table. It’s more difficult than it sounds, but lots of skill training, focus, and patience will make this an amazing hour of fun. Among the benefits are improved concentration, eye-hand coordination, fine and gross motor skills, and sportsmanship. Note: New and returning students are welcome. Class is held in Caedmon’s downstairs space. $495
