Afterschool Classes & Schedule

Afterschool class offerings have been curated specifically for the needs and interests of Caedmon families, and each day offers new opportunities for fun and discovery. 

Class descriptions for the 2025-2026 Winter Trimester are now posted.

Registration for Winter Afterschool Classes will open on November 10 at 12:00 PM. The Winter trimester features new class options, along with many returning favorites. Please note that some of our most popular classes can fill up quickly, so be sure to register early to secure your child’s spot.

Monday Classes

Beginners Chess (Early Program only)

Story Time Chess Faculty

Using fun, interactive, and creative storytelling, our Early Program friends will learn the background stories behind each of the chess pieces. For example, why does the king only move one square at a time and why is the rook always “running”? Children will need to take the class to find out the answer. In addition, students will develop math skills, critical thinking, emotional intelligence, and executive functioning skills. Note: Suitable for new and experienced players.

Caedmon Chefs Ray (Beginners – Early Program)

All the ingredients turn out just right in this junior food-making class. Children practice their fine-motor skills as they mix, stir, chop, and blend a host of foods to produce delicious snacks and meals. Children also learn collaboration, patience, and the importance of good nutrition. Some of the winter menu highlights include potato latkes, baked lasagna, and Irish soda bread. Bring your appetite for this one! 

 

Caedmon Chef Flay (Kindergarten – 2nd Grade)

For those with a little more experience in the kitchen, this cooking class provides students the practice needed to become their own sous chefs. Students do all the mixing, chopping, rolling, and seasoning as they prepare a variety of delicious meals, snacks, and beverages. In addition to taking home their creations, children get to sample their food in class while developing design skills and etiquette. Some of the winter menu highlights include potato latkes, baked lasagna, and Irish soda bread. 

 

Wild Kratts Animals (Early Program – 2nd Grade)

Inspired by the live-action/animated television series Wild Kratts, this zoology class takes an in-depth look at a variety of wild animals and their unique characteristics. All investigative tactics will be utilized to probe animals such as bats, foxes, crocodiles, beavers, snakes, and polar bears. Hands-on, interactive projects fortify each student’s learning and fun. This is the class for every child who wants to deeply examine the animal world.

 

Caedmon Hoops II (2nd Grade –  5th Grade)

Join Caedmon Basketball Coach Mr. Kessler in this skills-based class which emphasizes dribbling, passing, footwork, rebounding, and proper shooting form. Fun games and vigorous exercises reinforce key fundamentals that are building blocks to team play. This class is equal amounts sweat, fun, and basketball skill development. Full court games conclude every class. 

Note: New and returning hoopsters are welcome.  

 

Film Making (3rd Grade – 5th Grade)

Students in this class will practice writing, acting in, filming, and editing their own short scenes. They will learn about different types of shots, how to make a scene spatially clear, and how to maintain the flow of an action from one shot to the next. Typically, students will also learn by collaborating to create one or more short films from their own stories. It’s perfect for children interested in working behind and in front of the camera. Who’s ready to make a movie?

Gastrodiplomacy (2nd Grade – 5th Grade)

Every culture has a cuisine and every dish tells a story.  Students in this after school class will cook simple, meaningful dishes from around the world while learning about basic cooking techniques.  In doing so, they will become “food ambassadors”, learning how cooking and sharing food builds bridges between cultures.  Each week we will prepare a dish from a different culture and use that dish to explore its history while engaging in small acts of diplomacy: listening, presenting, and celebrating diversity. This class is inspired by the works of Samin Nosrat and Alton Brown. 

Allergy Note:
This class will be nut-free, in accordance with school and kitchen rules. Other allergies will not be restricted, but please inform the instructor of any specific dietary concerns so accommodations can be made if necessary.

Note: Class runs from 3:40 – 5:00.

Join Captain Jam and the Agents of Jam for a musical world tour through Motor City Motown, Paris Jazz & Valentines, and New Orleans Mardi Gras! This award-winning music and movement program builds coordination, creativity, and confidence through rhythm, play, and cultural exploration. Featuring songs from FunikiJam’s Power of the Flower album and YouTube series, the season ends with an optional showcase performance with Captain Jam and the Agents of Jam.

This is the perfect class for the young ones with an abundance of physical energy. From forward to backward rolls, to bridges, to all kinds of stretches, jumps, lunges, and everything in between, these young athletes will harness all their vigor and flexibility in this structured pre-gymnastics program. In addition to the fun, creative form of expression, children will develop focus, core strength, stamina, and sequencing skills.   
 

Soccer I (Early Program and Kindergarten)

This high-energy soccer and movement games class combines age-appropriate fun and fitness exercises with the fundamentals of soccer. Designed by former professional soccer player James Christie, SocRoc is unlike any other youth soccer program. Children will develop a wide series of soccer skills, including one-touch and two-touch passing, trapping, and power shots. Come join the SocRoc excitement this fall. Note: Class is held in the upstairs Caedmon gym.

The wonderful teachers of Manhattan Mandarin will help your child begin his/her journey towards Mandarin fluency. Children will build the foundation of essential language skills in a fun and engaging class that focuses on tonal pronunciation, sentence building, initial character writing, numbers, family, foods, and hobbies. Songs will be sung and projects will be completed while your child falls in love with learning Mandarin and all about Chinese culture.

Students step into the role of real-world innovators and entrepreneurs. Throughout the session, they’ll brainstorm creative solutions to everyday challenges, form teams, and design working prototypes that bring their ideas to life. Students will learn about product design, marketing, and financial literacy in a fun and age-appropriate way while developing their confidence and presentation skills. Each session builds toward an exciting final showcase where students pitch their projects to a friendly panel of “sharks” — teachers, peers, and families — celebrating their hard work and imagination. This class blends creativity, problem-solving, and collaboration to show students that anyone can be an inventor or entrepreneur.

Soccer players develop their one-touch and two-touch passes under the experienced coaching of veteran SocRoc instructors. In addition to soccer skills and games, youngsters are challenged with a variety of exercises meant to improve balance, agility, core strength, and stamina. The workout is vigorous, and the soccer excitement is unparalleled. New and experienced players are welcome. Note: Class is held in the upstairs Caedmon gym and meets from 4:20 – 5:20.

 

Magic (3rd Grade – 5th Grade)

Be part of the mystical and exciting world of magic. Using playing cards, coins, sleight of hand, and many other instruments, our young students will learn new tricks from a magic guru each week. The benefits of learning magic, in addition to the fun of impressing and puzzling friends and family, include focus, determination, fine and gross motor skills, confidence, and public speaking skills. Performing magic takes a lot of practice to reach proficiency, but amazing results await.

Spark curiosity early with Science Experiments for Littles! Designed especially for preschool-aged children, this playful class introduces young learners to the wonders of science through colorful, hands-on activities. From bubbling reactions to sensory explorations, each experiment is simple, safe, and filled with awe.

With opportunities to touch, observe, and experiment, children will begin to understand concepts like cause and effect, observation, and discovery- all while having fun in a supportive environment. By the end of the course, our littlest scientists will have built a joyful foundation for a lifelong love of learning.

Grab your rackets and head up to the Caedmon gym. The very popular sport continues at Caedmon this Spring. Students learn the basics of forehands, backhands, stance, swing, and footwork while having fun with friends in a familiar space. Tennis improves hand-eye coordination, fine and gross motor skills, concentration, and social interaction. Returning players and first-time tennis players are welcome. Note: Class is held in the upstairs Caedmon gym and all equipment will be provided.

Oceanography (Early Program – 2nd Grade)

Have you ever wondered what kinds of creatures live in the depths of the sea? Do you ever imagine exploring a famous shipwreck underwater? If you ever wanted to learn about a certain underwater species of animal, then Oceanography is for you! In this class we will explore the 5 ocean zones, and learn about the different habitats and strange creatures that live in the marine worlds around the globe. Our study of the ocean biome will be tailored to the interests and needs of the children who join the class. So, if you have ever wanted to learn about the many species of sharks and which ones sleep, or perhaps why corals glow at night, then this is the place to find out!

Tennis II ( Kindergarten – 2nd Grade)

This beginner to intermediate level class will develop all the key tennis fundamentals, including stance, swing, and footwork. Children will learn how to hit forehands, backhands, and volleys among friends in a familiar space. This class is a great outlet for physical activity and a perfect follow/up to summer. Note: Class is held in the upstairs Caedmon gym and runs from 4:20 – 5:20. All equipment is provided.  


Martial Arts I (Kindergarten – 1st Grade)

Based on teaching in a positive, focused, and character-building environment, the class is a blend of ancient and modern martial arts with a solid foundation in Taekwondo and Japanese Karate. Lessons are learned through creative games and activities that promote fitness, agility, and confidence. Children learn proper self-defense techniques while building stamina and core strength. Other benefits are focus, cooperation, and a love and appreciation of martial arts. Note: Uniform is provided for all new students.

This multi-level class provides students with the foundational concepts of Taekwondo and Japanese Karate. In addition to the basics of self-defense, children engage in a variety of fun and creative games meant to build strength, confidence, balance, and agility. Veteran martial arts practitioners and newcomers are both welcome. Note: Class meets from 4:40 – 5:40 in Caedmon’s downstairs space.

 

Minecraft I (1st Grade – 5th Grade)

This beginners/intermediate class tantalizes young children with a plethora of options for building, scaling, and allocating resources. Students learn creativity and survival mode applications via the MinecraftEdu program. They’ll chart courses that are innovative, fun, and practical while contemplating real world solutions to perplexing circumstances. Under the facilitation of librarian and tech master, Ms. Vrazel, these Minecraft pupils will find success in this digital world. Note: Suitable for new and returning students.

Ballet Dancing I (Early Program – Kindergarten)

This graceful and flowing style of dance continues at Caedmon this winter. Learn basic barre exercises including plies and eleves. Girls are required to wear a black leotard, pink tights and pink ballet slippers. Boys must wear black tights, a white T-shirt, and black ballet slippers. Long hair should be pulled back. Both new and returning students are welcome. Note: Class is held in the upstairs Caedmon gym.

 

Theater for Kids (Kindergarten – 3rd Grade)

Children explore their creative side in this fun and unique theatre and improv class. A variety of movement exercises, character development, and amusing interactions with one another enable students as they develop and sharpen their acting techniques. They will also have the opportunity to create and present their own mini-shows at the end of the term. For children who embrace the stage and spotlight or those ready to try something new and fun, this theatre class will provide laughs, smiles, and memorable experiences.  

 

Super Sketching (2nd Grade – 5th Grade)

By drawing from various works of art, photographs, nature, and still life that surrounds them, students will dedicate themselves to this focused activity that promotes visual thinking skills. Concentration is key as children learn to sketch what they see. Drawing skills will naturally improve as children carefully select the objects to draw each week. It’s a challenging but peaceful exercise that is a perfect way to cap a week at school.

 

PingPong (3rd – 5th Grade)

The classic game of table tennis is a can’t miss after school class. Children will learn to hit forehands and backhands with the wood paddle while placing the small plastic ball over the net and onto the table. It’s more difficult than it sounds, but lots of skill training, focus, and patience will make this an amazing hour of fun. Among the benefits are improved concentration, eye-hand coordination, fine and gross motor skills, and sportsmanship. Note: New and returning students are welcome. Class is held in Caedmon’s downstairs space.

 

Whacky Science World Tour (Kindergarten – 2nd Grade)

This program takes students on a global adventure through the wonders of science. Each week features a new “destination” where children explore a fascinating branch of science — from chemistry and physics to earth science and engineering. They will mix colorful chemical reactions, create mini-volcanoes, launch balloon rockets, experiment with magnets and motion, and even engineer simple machines. Every activity is carefully designed to be hands-on, safe, and exciting, allowing students to see real-world science in action. By the end of the session, students will have discovered that science isn’t just something you read about — it’s something you can do.
